We have done it on the chapel terrace below Skaros Rock, on Fira rooftops, on villa terraces and on catamarans below Oia. How a hidden proposal shoot works
Everything is agreed before you arrive, in a private call or on WhatsApp: the spot, the exact minute based on the sunset for your date, the direction you will face, and a simple signal such as taking off a hat or stopping at a specific wall. Alexandros is on the terrace twenty minutes early and sends you one word when the light and the spot are ready.
You walk in as a couple on an evening stroll. Your partner sees a man with a camera at the wall, like every other visitor. You stop at the mark, you ask, and the first thirty frames are shot from fifteen to twenty meters away with a long lens. After the yes, Alexandros walks over, introduces himself and shoots twenty minutes of portraits while the light is still gold.
Alexandros's note: I never hide behind things. Hiding looks suspicious, standing at a wall with a camera does not. The only rule I ask of you is to keep walking at a normal pace; people who slow down and look around give the game away.

The spots that work for a proposal, by hour
Santorini has dozens of viewpoints and only a few of them work for a surprise. A proposal spot needs three things: space to stand without someone behind you, light on your faces, and a place where a photographer looks normal. Our locations guide ranks every spot; these are the ones we use most for proposals.

What happens if something goes wrong
Wind: Santorini's evening wind can be strong on the caldera edge. If the forecast is bad we move the spot to a sheltered terrace the day before, or change the time to the morning. Your partner only knows the time of the evening walk, so the change is invisible.
Crowds: if a tour group stops at your mark, Alexandros sends a short message and you walk fifty meters further; every spot has a second mark. Rain: free date change, no questions asked.
Nerves: you do not need to say anything to Alexandros before the question. He is not watching you; he is watching the mark, and he will not shoot a single frame before the knee goes down.
Who books a proposal photographer in Santorini
Mostly couples on a four to seven day trip who want the proposal photographed without staging it. Many come on a honeymoon-style holiday from the US, the UK and Australia, some from a cruise ship with four hours on the island, and a growing number arrive with the family in tow and want them in the second half of the photos.

After the yes: the next morning session
The proposal evening is fast and emotional. The next morning is the opposite: you both know, you have slept on it, and Oia at 07:30 belongs to the two of you. Book two hours and take the second one that next morning, on any day of your stay, for €499 in total.

Where we shoot it
The postcard: blue domes, the castle ruins, the windmills and the long walk down to Ammoudi. It is also the busiest village on the island from 17:00 until dark.

Can we shoot on a catamaran or at our villa?
Yes. Villa terraces and hotel pools are among our favorite private spots, and we regularly photograph proposals on catamaran cruises below the cliffs of Oia. Catamaran proposals are quoted individually because the boat is booked separately.
Proposal or engagement shoot: what is the difference?
A proposal shoot captures the surprise itself, photographed from a hidden position, with portraits right after. An engagement shoot is a planned couple session once you are already engaged, often the next morning. Two hours of the proposal session cover both for €499: the surprise one evening, the calm session the next morning.
Can you also film it or bring a second photographer?
Yes. The proposal film (€390) adds a one to two minute edit, with drone footage where permitted. For weddings a second photographer costs €350 and a wedding film starts at €1,490.
