How a hidden proposal shoot works
Everything is arranged with you, and nothing is visible to your partner. Here is exactly what happens from the first message to the moment she — or he — says yes.
- Tell me the plan. Your dates, where you are staying, and whether you already have a spot in mind. I reply within 24 hours with availability and a recommendation for the light.
- We choose the spot and the minute. Every location in Santorini has a best 30 minutes. I tell you exactly when to arrive and where to stand so the caldera, the sun and your partner line up in the frame.
- I am in position before you are. Dressed like a visitor, camera low, 15–40 metres away. In 500+ sessions, partners have noticed me only a handful of times — and only because they were looking.
- The moment. I shoot the walk-up, the kneel, the reaction and the ring continuously. No posing, no direction, no "do it again".
- The portrait session after. 20–30 relaxed minutes of the two of you with the ring, the view and the adrenaline still in the air. These are usually the photos that end up framed.
Where to propose in Santorini
I have photographed proposals at every viewpoint on the island. These six are the ones I recommend most, with the timing that makes each one work:
- Oia Castle (Kastro) — the sunset amphitheatre and Santorini's most requested proposal spot. Arrive 45 minutes before sunset; I shoot from the terraces above the ruins.
- Skaros Rock, Imerovigli — a 20-minute walk to a volcanic headland with the widest caldera panorama on the island and almost no crowds. The chapel of Agios Georgios below it is a favourite for family surprises.
- Fira & Firostefani terraces — bell towers, blue domes and private restaurant terraces. The best choice for candle-and-petal setups with the town lights coming on behind you.
- A private villa terrace — total privacy. I coordinate quietly with your hotel or villa host; sparklers, florals and a "Marry Me" sign are all possible.
- A catamaran on the caldera — sea level, no audience. Proposals happen at the bow beneath Oia's red cliffs, followed by champagne, a swim and the sunset from the water.
- Akrotiri Lighthouse — the quiet, windswept alternative at the island's southern tip, with an open horizon and usually nobody else there.
