The capital: the caldera path, the Three Bells, white hotels stacked on the cliff and the old port below.
Fira and Firostefani
The capital: the caldera path, the Three Bells, white hotels stacked on the cliff and the old port below. Ten minutes from the cable car, which makes it the right village for cruise days and short stays.
Best time: Morning for the caldera path and rooftops; sunset from a private terrace rather than the main walkway.
We have photographed 160 of the sessions in our portfolio here. Below: why the village works, the hour for each spot, the meeting point, the rules, and the packages that include it.
Meeting point

| Three Bells of Fira | The white Catholic bell tower on the path to Firostefani. Small, often shaded, quick to photograph. | ||||
| Caldera path rooftops | Rooftops along the path, yours if your hotel is on the caldera. Town behind you, caldera in front. | ||||
| Firostefani viewpoint | Blue dome of Agios Gerasimos and the full sweep of Fira. Quieter than the center. | ||||
| Old port of Fira | Yellow pier, fishing boats, cruise tenders. Reached by cable car or 588 steps. |

Rules: Hotel terraces are private: we use your own terrace or the public path and viewpoints. The cable car queue peaks when cruise ships are in port.

The castle, windmills and blue domes of Oia; Skaros Rock and the chapel terraces of Imerovigli; the caldera path and Three Bells in Fira; Akrotiri lighthouse at sunset; Vlychada's sculpted cliffs; Pyrgos and Megalochori for quiet alleys. Our locations guide ranks them by hour and crowd level.
The three famous domes stand in Oia below the main walkway, and Oia has about a dozen more. Imerovigli and Firostefani have their own blue-domed churches with far fewer people. We know the terraces that look straight at them.
Oia for the famous postcard, Imerovigli for space. Oia has the domes, the windmills and the castle, and in summer it also has the crowds. Imerovigli has Skaros Rock, the chapel terraces and the widest caldera view, with almost nobody in your frame.
Oia asks visitors and photographers to keep the pathways clear and to respect residents and church property. Some church courtyards are private and may be closed to shoots or ask for a small contribution. We follow the rules on the day, keep a low profile and never block a path for a photo.
