Proposal Shoot or Engagement Shoot in Santorini?

The two are often confused, and the confusion costs couples the photos they wanted. A proposal shoot and an engagement shoot are different sessions with different goals, different hours and different prices, and in Santorini they fit together surprisingly well.

The proposal shoot

The proposal shoot is about one minute of your life. Alexandros is on the terrace before you arrive, your partner has no idea, and the question is photographed from fifteen to twenty meters away with a long lens. After the yes he walks over and shoots twenty minutes of portraits while the light is still gold and the shock is still on your faces.

What you get: the knee going down, the reaction, the ring going on, the first hug, and a short set of portraits. 50 or more edited photos, delivered within two to three days so you can share the news before you fly home. Price: €349 as the Secret Proposal.

What you do not get: time. The proposal evening is fast and emotional, you are in whatever you wore for a walk, and the light is going. It is the most important photo of the trip and the least controlled.

The engagement shoot

The engagement shoot is a planned couple session once you are engaged. You chose the outfits, we chose the light, and nobody is nervous. One hour in one village or two hours in two villages, usually at sunrise in Oia when the streets are empty or at golden hour in Imerovigli.

What you get: a calm, complete set of photos of the two of you, with the ring, in the places and clothes you wanted. 60 or more photos for an hour, 110 or more for two, delivered within a week. Price: from €349 as the Golden Hour Session, €499 for the two-hour Signature Session.

What you do not get: the surprise. The engagement shoot has no moment, it has a mood.

Why many couples book both

The proposal gives you the moment; the engagement session the next morning gives you the photos you will frame. Oia at 07:30 belongs to you, the ring is on, the news has sunk in, and the two of you look like yourselves instead of like people who have just been ambushed. If you can only do one

Proposing in Santorini and only booking one session: book the proposal shoot. The twenty minutes of portraits after the yes are a real set of couple photos, and the moment cannot be re-shot. Already engaged when you arrive: book the engagement shoot, and spend the saved nerves on the outfits.

Pre-wedding sessions

A pre-wedding shoot is an engagement shoot for couples marrying elsewhere, often used for save-the-date cards and the wedding slideshow. Same sessions, same prices; tell us the wedding's colors and we plan the outfits and the villages around them.

What the two galleries look like

A proposal gallery has a shape: five or six frames of the walk-in, the knee, the hands over the mouth, the ring going on, the first hug, then twenty to thirty portraits in the last light, often with the sun behind you because that is where the proposal faced. Fifty photos, most of them from one spot, all of them from one of the most emotional minutes of your life.

An engagement gallery is wider: four or five spots across one or two villages, the two of you walking, sitting, laughing at the goat on the path, a few quiet frames with the ring in the morning light, outfits that you planned. Sixty to a hundred and ten photos with the variety a save-the-date card or a wedding slideshow needs.

Timing the two sessions

The proposal is at golden hour because that is when the terraces look their best and the surprise reads on faces. The engagement session is the morning after at 07:15 in Oia, or two days later at golden hour in Imerovigli if you want the glow twice. Couples staying three nights usually do the proposal on the first evening, so the rest of the trip is the celebration, and the engagement session on the last morning, when the news has sunk in.

Alexandros's note: if the proposal happened in Imerovigli, I take the engagement session somewhere else. Two galleries with the same wall behind you look like one long session, and you deserve two.

Outfits

For the proposal you wear what you would wear for a walk, which is the point: your partner should not suspect a thing. Light colors and no logos help, but nobody dresses up for a surprise. For the engagement session you choose: the dress that moves in the wind, the linen shirt, a second outfit at the car. Booked separately, the proposal and a one-hour session cost €698. The bundle saves €149 and gives you one planning conversation, one deposit and one gallery.

A sample two-day plan

Evening one, Imerovigli. Alexandros is on the chapel terrace below Skaros Rock twenty-five minutes before your time. You arrive about seventy minutes before sunset, when the light is at its best and the terrace is still at crowd level 2. The signal, the moment, twenty minutes of portraits, and you are at dinner before the sun is down. The proposal photos arrive within two to three days.

Morning two, Oia. We meet at the bus station square shortly after sunrise, when the alleys are empty. One hour through the village in the outfits you chose, with the castle and the windmills to yourselves. These photos join the gallery within the week.

Booking both in one request

Choose the bundle on the booking page and give us two dates. One 30 % deposit secures both; the balance is paid in cash or by card when we meet. The weather policy covers each day on its own: if the morning turns windy, we move the session, and the proposal photos are already safe.

Questions couples ask

Can the engagement session be the same evening as the proposal? Yes, but the light is gone within an hour of the question. The next morning gives you a fresh hour; most couples prefer it.

Do we get the proposal photos before the engagement session? Usually. Proposal photos arrive within two to three days, so if the sessions are three days apart you will have seen the first set before the second.

Can family join the engagement session? Yes, for a few frames. If you want the whole family photographed, the Family Session (€349, up to six people) is the better fit.

What if the proposal does not go to plan? It always goes to plan in the ways that matter; the ring goes on. If the wind or a tour group moves the spot, Alexandros moves with you. The engagement session the next morning is the safety net nobody has needed yet.
